Windows, macOS and Linux, from Releases. It is a folder you copy — no installer, no runtime to install first. It needs Visual Pinball Standalone (BGFX) 10.8.1 or newer; the short version of why is just below, and the long one is on What you supply.

What it is

It is a media player for your pinball tables. Your library is the shelf: scroll along it, press play, and the table runs. Quit the table and you are straight back in the library — no file browser, no desktop, nothing to click your way out of. On a cabinet you do all of that on the cabinet buttons.

The whole cabinet is managed from a browser or a phone on your own network — importing tables, the coin door, your screens, the volume — with nothing in the cloud and nothing to install on the phone. Windows, macOS and Linux, and the table folder is the same on all three, so a table you set up on one machine works on the others. Pinball FX and Pinball FX Midnight sit in the library beside your own tables.

It is a front end, not a rig installer: it does not install Visual Pinball, ROMs or DOF, and it never downloads a table. What vPinOps is has the whole shape, including what it deliberately does not do.

What you need — the short version

Visual Pinball Standalone, the BGFX build, 10.8.1 or newer. Visual Pinball still marks 10.8.1 as a pre-release; it is the first build that lets a front end put your backglass and DMD on the right screens, which is the main thing vPinOps does.

On 10.8.0, or the older Windows-only VPinballX.exe, you can still try it: tables launch and come back to the wheel. What is missing is screen placement, until you move to 10.8.1. What you supply · Get Visual Pinball

Quick setup The short path: start it, point it at Visual Pinball, import one table, play it.

Full cabinet setup The whole thing, in the order you actually do it — screens, buttons, start on boot.

What vPinOps is A front end, not a rig installer. Cabinet mode and desktop mode, both first-class.

What you supply Visual Pinball, your tables, your ROMs. The list, per platform.

Install on macOS Drag it across, approve it once in Privacy & Security, then the two display settings a cabinet needs.

Install on Windows Unzip it, and say yes to the firewall — that is the one that catches people.

Install on Linux Same build, and the two things that decide whether a cabinet works.

Is this for me?

Building or rebuilding a cab on 10.8.1	Yes — this is the setup it was built for. Quick setup.
On a settled 10.8.0 cabinet today	You can try it. Tables launch and return; your screens cannot be placed until you move to 10.8.1+. Get Visual Pinball says which build.
No cabinet, just a desktop	Yes. Desktop mode is first-class, not a cut-down one. Two ways to run it.
Moving over from another front end	If your library is already one folder per table, point at it and it is your library. If it is a pile of files, it goes in a table at a time. The folder layout · Importing.

The cab serves its own interface to any device on your network. Manage your library, send a table over from the device in your hand, set ROM and table volume, and reach the operator menu behind the coin door — without reaching behind the cabinet for a keyboard.

Nothing is copied to your device and nothing goes to a cloud. Your library stays on the cabinet; you are looking at it from wherever you are.

Where things stand

vPinOps runs on Windows and macOS, and on Linux under KDE Plasma and Hyprland. The wheel, import, screens, OpsLink and your library all work the same on all three.

Not on Linux yet: Steam games (Pinball FX and Pinball FX Midnight are Windows and macOS today), and desktops other than the two it is used on are untested. Some of what is left on Linux is Visual Pinball’s, not ours — what that means for a Linux cabinet.

There is no installer; vPinOps is a folder you copy. The full picture, kept honest, is on the roadmap.
